Government Degree College (GDC) was established in 2008 via Government Order No. 269-HE of 2007 dated 20-12-2007. Located in Paloura, Jammu and Kashmir, the college encourages students to achieve their full potential. GDC Paloura provides quality education with world-class academic standards. It is affiliated with the University of Jammu.

GDC Jammu courses are offered at undergraduate levels in fields of arts, computer applications, science both medical and non-medical, physical education, etc. The college is also a leader in research and innovation. The GDC Jammu admission to these courses is merit-based and the availability of seats. The application form has to be filled out online on the college website. Being a government college, the GDC Jammu fees are nominal, which makes it possible for every student irrespective of their background to afford it. GDC has conducted two skill courses under the Industrial Skill Training initiative. GDC offers one girl's hostel accommodating 270 out-station students. GDC Paloura campus is spread across 7 acres and also has several curricular and co-curricular activities for students. The GDC Paloura College Jammu faculty includes 24 members. It also has 10 non-teaching staff members.

Government Degree College Jammu has its very own scholarship committee which looks over all the sponsorship, implementation, help and guidance and other such activities. The GDC Jammu scholarship committee play an important role and consists of nine members. The main objective of the committee is to provide meritorious students belonging from the financially weaker sections of society. The courses offered in Government Degree College Jammu are at undergraduate levels only, in arts, science and education fields. The GDC Jammu courses also include both medical and non-medical specialisations under its B.Sc degree. The college offers several subject combinations including EVS as one of the compulsory subjects. For language course options candidates can choose from either English, Hindi, Urdu or Dogri. The GDC Jammu fees are nominal, making the courses affordable to all. 

The Govt. Degree College Jammu admission to these courses is merit-based. It also depends on the availability of seats. Students from other boards like CBSE, who are not from Jammu and Kashmir Board have to pay an eligibility fee of Rs 880 during admission.
